Due to current government restrictions limiting access to military installations, this year’s course will not run through the U.S. Coast Guard Base.
Beginning at the Museum of the Albemarle, the race starts in historic downtown Elizabeth City and follows the scenic Pasquotank River waterfront. Runners will pass beautiful riverfront homes and reach the midpoint near one of the last remaining WWII airship hangars—a striking 20-story, dome-shaped waterfront structure—before heading back toward downtown. The course continues past Elizabeth City State University, a historically Black college and home to the only four-year collegiate aviation education program in North Carolina, before finishing in the heart of the historic district.
We’re thrilled to offer this USATF-sanctioned, certified, and Boston Qualifying race to both military and civilian participants! Known as the fastest course in North Carolina and ranked among the top 40 fastest in the nation, the Coast Guard Marathon promises an exciting weekend of racing, community, and celebration. We hope you’ll join us!
