We at the Coast Guard Marathon were lucky enough to connect with running coach and active duty Coast Guard Chief, Shane Williams who provided us with an 18 week marathon training plan.
About Coach Shane
Coach Shane Williams
Coach Shane began coaching runners in his early 20’s, returning to his high school to be the sprint coach for the Track and Field team. He discovered endurance sports later in his 20’s, starting with shorter triathlons and running events. As Coach Shane became fascinated with human potential and endurance, he finished his first marathon in 2012 and first ultramarathon of 50 miles in 2013. Since then Coach Shane has competed in several events, including two marathons, three 50k, four 50 milers, and one 100 miler. He has been a certified UESCA run coach since 2019 and has coached runners of all skill levels, ranging from 1 miles to 100 miles. Coach Shane currently hosts a podcast titled The Runabout, where he speaks with other runners about running, life, and much more. It can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon.
