Know Before You Race:
Event Access
Runners are required to access the start and finish areas through screening points. Limiting the number of items brought to these events will greatly reduce the wait time at these entry points.
All runner bags, and purses, etc., will be subject to search by law enforcement at the screening points. Runners should never leave bags unattended anywhere near the start and finish areas. Only clear plastic bags issued to participants will be allowed at baggage drop-off. All participant bags will be issued during Packet Pick-up.
The CGM-issued bib, provided during Packet Pick-up, serves as the most recognizable identification for participants of running events. Prior to arriving at the start area, runners must have the bib fastened to the front of their clothing.
Your cooperation and patience are appreciated.
Rules & Safety Guidelines
- Only registered participants are allowed on course. Anyone not wearing a race bib will not be allowed on course. If an unregistered person is found to be on course, they will be removed, and risk being banned from all future CGM events.

- Bib numbers are NOT transferrable and for security purposes is considered a serious offense. Anyone found participating with another person’s number will disqualify both people from future Coast Guard Marathon events.
- Participants understand that there are inherent dangers including but not limited to: falls, physical contact with other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators including the potential the contraction of a communicable disease resulting from contact with other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators. By registering for this event you assume all risks and agree to abide by all rules.

Accordingly, the Coast Guard Marathon has adopted a clear bag policy. Unless otherwise noted, all attendees are required to comply with this policy and are subject to the restrictions on bag size and type permitted within event spaces.

Spectator Safety:
Viewing Locations
Tips
- Respect the Course. Staying clear of course boundaries. This means don’t cross the course. Stay on the curb or sidewalks to avoid narrowing the streets for runners, and most importantly, listen to law enforcement and Coasties with regard to the best location to stand and cheer.
- Timing Is Everything. Know the runner’s projected pace-per-mile to aid in determining where and when they should reach certain points in the course. Track your runner in-real time
- Information. Visit the CGM Info tent in the Finish Festival. .
- Get Noticed. It is easier for runners to find their supporters who hold a sign or banner and are wearing brightly colored clothing. Its also crucial to know a marathoner’s bib number and outfit. It’s an imperfect science trying to time the convergence of a runner and spectator. If you suspect you’ve missed each other, move to the next viewing location.
- Be Social. Use #AlwaysReady and #SemperParatus on all social postings to add to the CGM digital story.
- Reunite with Runner. Runners and supporters should meet in the Finish Festival at Waterfront Park.
*Final details and rules subject to change.
See Something, Say Something
Runners and spectators are asked by the CGM and its law enforcement partners to actively observe their surroundings while also supporting the procedures put in place to ensure the safety of all. If something suspicious is observed, individuals should report it immediately, either by calling 911 or by asking a police officer for assistance. Event status updates, weather and news alerts will be disseminated on social media and the event website.
